Licenses

Buying without picking a server, assigning and detaching, moving a license between servers, and managing billing.

Licenses live on your profile, not on a server. /profile lists every one you have bought, which server it is currently on, and what it costs.

Buying

You can buy from two places, and both end at the same Stripe checkout:

FromBehaviour
/profile → Buy a licenseBuys an unassigned license. You pick the server afterwards
A server's Premium pageBuys a license and assigns it to that server immediately

Buying without a server first is the flexible route — useful when you are setting up a server you have not created yet, or buying for someone else.

Confirm the withdrawal notice

Before checkout you confirm the statutory withdrawal information. This is a legal requirement for digital services delivered immediately, not an upsell.

Pay at Stripe

Cloudy never sees your card details. Stripe handles the payment and redirects you back.

Assign it

Back on /profile, the license shows as Not assigned. Click Assign and pick a server.

Assigning

Assign attaches a license to a server. The target must be a server you own and that Cloudy is installed on — being an administrator is not enough for this particular action, because a license is a payment relationship.

The moment it is assigned, every premium plugin that was enabled on that server starts running again.

Detaching

Detach removes a license from a server. The license stays on your profile and can be re-assigned at any time.

Detaching does not cancel a subscription. Billing continues; you simply have an unassigned license you are paying for. To stop paying, cancel at Stripe (see below).

Moving a license between servers

Detach it from the old server and assign it to the new one — or use Transfer to do both in one step.

For subscription licenses the billing moves with the license: future renewals apply to the new server automatically. There is no proration, no gap, and no second charge.

Managing billing

Manage at Stripe opens the Stripe customer portal, where you can:

  • update your payment method,
  • download invoices,
  • cancel a subscription.

A cancelled subscription stays active until the end of the paid period. The license shows Cancelled with an Access until date, and the server keeps full premium access until then.

Lifetime licenses have nothing to manage — they never renew and never expire.

License states

StateMeaning
ActivePaid and running. Assigned licenses unlock their server
CancelledCancelled but still inside the paid period. Full access until Access until
ExpiredThe period ended. Premium plugins on the assigned server stop
Not assignedPaid but on no server. Nothing is unlocked until you assign it

Refunds and chargebacks

A refunded lifetime purchase revokes the license. A disputed or refunded subscription payment ends the entitlement the same way. In both cases the server's configuration is kept — only the entitlement goes.

Who sees what

On a server's Premium page, any admin can see that the server is licensed and who bought it. Only the purchaser sees the license on their own profile and can move or cancel it.

If the person who bought a server's license leaves, that license leaves with them — it is theirs. Buy a new one for the server, or ask them to keep it assigned. For community-owned servers, buying from an account the whole team controls avoids this entirely.
