Giveaways

A giveaway is an embed with a Join button. Cloudy tracks entries, draws winners at the end time and announces them. You can start one from the dashboard or with /giveaway-start in Discord.

Defaults

Applied whenever a giveaway is started without specifying the value — from Discord or the dashboard.

Default channel

Optional

Where giveaways are posted when no channel is given.

Default winners

1–50 · default 1

Default number of winners for new giveaways.

Notify role

Optional

Pinged when a giveaway is posted. Make it an opt-in role members can pick themselves via reaction roles — pinging @everyone for every giveaway is how you lose members.

Embed colour

Hex #rrggbb · optional

Accent colour of the giveaway embed. Empty inherits the server embed colour.

The whole giveaway card can also be designed with the embed builder.

Starting a giveaway

Title

1–256 characters · required

Shown at the top of the embed. Be specific: Nitro Classic — 1 month beats Giveaway.

Description

Up to 2000 characters · optional

Details shown in the embed: what exactly is being given away, how the winner is contacted, any rules you want stated up front.

Channel

Required

Channel to post this giveaway in.

Winners

1–50 · default 1

How many winners to draw. Cloudy draws distinct winners — the same member cannot win twice in one draw.

Ends at

Required

When the giveaway closes and winners are drawn. Cloudy handles the countdown; you do not need to be online.

Required roles

Up to 10 roles · optional

Members need at least one of these roles to enter. Empty means everyone may enter.

Use it for "subscribers only" or "level 10+" giveaways — paired with a role handed out by automations, this is how you gate on activity.

Excluded roles

Up to 10 roles · optional

Members holding any of these roles cannot enter. Typically your staff roles.

Managing running giveaways

The list shows active giveaways with their live entry count, and the last 50 finished ones. From the dashboard you can edit a running giveaway's title, description, winner count, end time and role rules, or cancel it.

Commands

/giveaway-end and /giveaway-close are different on purpose: end draws winners immediately, close cancels the giveaway without a draw.

Behaviour notes

• Entries are stored per member, so the count is accurate even if someone clicks twice.
• A member who leaves the server stays in the entry list but is skipped when winners are drawn.
• Rerolling draws from the same entry pool, excluding members who already won.
• Started from the dashboard, the bot posts the embed within about 30 seconds (Posting… badge).
• Changing the defaults does not affect giveaways that are already running.
